INFOCOMM Booth C5421 — Sonic Foundry, Inc. (NASDAQ: SOFO), the trusted global leader for video creation and management solutions, announced its partnership with the California State University System (CSU) to offer a robust and cost-effective video management system to its 23 campuses.
The CSU system and Sonic Foundry have signed a Master Enabling Agreement naming Mediasite Video Platform the preferred video management solution for its 470,000 students and 47,000 faculty and staff. Mediasite is added to the existing family of system-supported network applications available to campuses. Participating campuses will either host their content on-premises or in Mediasite Video Cloud.
“Video has become a central part of teaching, learning and communication. We are seeing rich media play a huge role in how the 21st century student learns and a big increase in the demand for video,” said Jean-Pierre Bayard, CSU director of system-wide learning technologies and program services. “We needed a secure system that would be able to control who has access to the content, and Mediasite by Sonic Foundry provides that best.”
Regardless of its source, Mediasite ensures all video has a secure, central home. It streamlines the most time-consuming steps of uploading, encoding and organizing every video asset so that it can be easily watched and managed with the click of a button. CSU campuses will be able to import video recorded with any device, user-generated content and web conferences into Mediasite Video Platform.
Currently, eight of the 23 system universities use Mediasite for video management, as well as to record lectures, trainings and special events on campus. Under the new agreement, more universities will have access to Mediasite.
“When you have the combination of a quality product that people want at a price that they can afford, like Sonic Foundry does, it’s a no-brainer for the universities. They’ll want to join in,” Bayard said.
“Sonic Foundry is thrilled to expand on our long-term relationship with the California State University system,” said Gary Weis, CEO, Sonic Foundry. “As academic video needs grow to include user-generated content, flipped learning modules, student assignments and more, it is increasingly important to choose a strategic technology partner who can support the expansion of multi-campus video initiatives. The selection of Mediasite Video Platform not only provides a unified, integrated platform for managing video, it drives economies of scale as campuses are served with a streamlined, vetted and competitive solution.”
